Geraint leads way to see off Legion
BANGOR City lie fourth in Division A of the North Wales Coast Bowling League after an impressive 8-4 home win over Denbigh A.
David P Williams performed best for the Citizens with a 21-6 card, Gareth Buckland and John Short both 21-10.
Beaumaris A came up with a great display to sweep aside champions Min-yDon 9-3, Keith Bailey leading the way with a 21-9 result.
Llanfairpwll sit nicely in mid-table following a commendable 10-2 home thrashing of Colwyn Bay Legion, John Evans and Geraint Booth both with 21-5 returns.
In Division B, Benllech slumped 8-4 at Llandudno A, while Bethesda were beaten by the same score at home to Prestatyn Highbury, Richard Jones 21-4.
Holyhead went top of Division C with a 7-5 success at Penrhyn New Hall A, the Holy Islanders heading the aggregates to claim the bonus with Hywel Gray’s 21-9 proving beneficial.
Beaumaris B were beaten 8-4 at Vardre A.
There was double joy for local sides in the Welsh Counties League. Beaumaris defeated champions Esclusham 7-3 on their Anglesey green, Keith Bailey (21-4), David P Williams (21-5) and Hefin Jones (21-9) the star turns.
Llanfairpwll were also delighted after thrashing Llanrwst 9-1 to lift themselves off the basement, Dion Owen shining brightest at 21-8.
Bangor City have taken over yet again from Llangefni as title pace-setters in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Monday Division, as reward for a 10-0 whitewash of visitors Holyhead.
The Garth Road rout included six single-figure efforts – Hefin Jones with 21-3, Dave Jones 21-4, Stuart Thomas 21-5, Gwerydd Buckland and David P Williams both 21-6, also the pairs on 21-7.
Llangefni were deposed at the top after stumbling to a 7-3 defeat at thirdplaced Beaumaris, where rival 21-8 cards were submitted by the home side’s Derek Stanley and the visitors’ Llew Griffiths.
Other results: Benllech 7 (Anne King 21-3) Menai Bridge 3, Criccieth 10 Academi Llanfair 0, Llanfairpwll 7 (pairs: Richard Clarke and Alun Owen 21-5) Caernarfon 3. The focus of special interest next Monday, July 23, will be the division’s Eric Whitworth Cup final, involving Bangor City and Caernarfon, in action at Benllech.
Llanfairpwll leapfrogged into pole position in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Wednesday Division, after claiming the honours in a 6-4 close encounter at Bethesda.
Pwll’s John Evans produced the best card at 21-6.
He was backed up by the Buckland brothers, Gary and Gwerydd, both with 21-8.
Benllech were effective as 8-2 conquerors of Holyhead, thanks mainly to David Walsh on 21-5, Glyn Roberts 21-6 and John F Booth 21-9.
