Drug dealer couple had speed in freezer

- Richard Griffiths, 54, was jailed for 22 months

ADRUG dealing couple have been jailed after stashing drugs in their freezer in the shed. Police raided the home of Richard Griffiths, 54, and his girlfriend, Sadie Marina Lloyd, 27, a mum of five, twice in July last year, a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court heard.

During the first raid at the house in Trem y Garnedd, Maesgeirchen, Bangor officers found amphetamine, in a shed to the rear of the property.

Both admitted charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply.

Judge Huw Rees said: “You two made it your business to supply drugs in your locality. You must now pay the price.”

Griffiths was handed a 22-month prison term and Lloyd 13 months.

Carl Scholz, prosecuting, said drugs were found in a fridge and a freezer in the shed. He added some cash and other paraphernalia along with 11 mobile phone were found and seized.

Experts valued the drugs at between £310 and £590.

Mr Scholz said Griffiths was interviewed but refused to answer questions and was released under investigation.

Three weeks later officers returned to the property and during a search found two bags in the freezer which contained nearly half a kilo of drugs valued at between £2,750 and £5,780.

Scales, spoons and other items were also found, and three mobile phones.

“Messages were found on the phones seized at the property that were indicative of drug dealing,” the barrister said.

Mr Scholz said the messages suggested the couple had an “established customer base”.

Both Griffiths and Lloyd were arrested after the second raid.

While Griffiths admitted the drugs were his he again refused to answer questions.

Lloyd said she was wholly unaware the drugs were in the house.

Dafydd Roberts, for both defendants, said Griffiths had previous convictions for supplying drugs and realised prison was inevitable.

He argued Lloyd’s sentence could be suspended in view of her limited previ- ous record.

Mr Roberts suggested Lloyd had shown “misplaced loyalty” towards her partner in assisting his drug dealing taking messages on his behalf and organising deliveries.

After the hearing PC Elwyn Williams of North Wales Police said: “Drugs blight communities causing misery to those affected by them. The arrest and successful prosecution of Sadie Lloyd and Richard Griffiths means residents have been protected and the supply of drugs into the community has been disrupted.

“We welcome today’s sentence and hope that this will send a message that North Wales Police will not tolerate drug dealing and anybody caught doing it will face the consequences of their actions.”
