Hotspur held as goalkeeper breaks a foot

-

HOLYHEAD Hotspur can look forward to another good pre-season test this Saturday when they visit Maesdu Park for a clash with Welsh Alliance Division One side Llandudno Albion (3pm).

The Holy Island outfit continued their build-up to the new campaign last Tuesday with a 0-0 draw at Llanrug United, who play at the same level as Albion.

The match at Eithin Duon was overshadowed by an injury to stand-in goalkeeper, former Wycombe Wanderers and Chester custodian Alex Lynch, midway through the first period, which saw him sustain a broken foot.

Proceedings were held up for an hour as an air ambulance and road assistance arrived on the scene and eventually took him to Ysbyty Gwynedd for assessment.

Lynch, currently in between clubs, was assisting his hometown club to keep himself fit for the new season with Carl Jones unavailable.

All at Hotspur wish him well in his recovery.

The game up to what looked like an innocuous incident had seen the hosts go close via James Phillips, while Luke McKendrick, for Darren Garmey’s side, twice went even nearer to breaking the deadlock.

When play resumed following the unfortunate injury to Lynch, it was decided to play just the second half and, although still as competitive, Hotspur had the better chances to win it.

Full back David Williams shot just over the bar on the resumption of play, followed by Caio Hywel putting McKendrick through which prompted a great save from home keeper Dylan Roberts.

A header by returning prodigal son Curt Williams was just over while Cory Jones did the same from point blank range.

Just before the end of this reduced encounter, Curt Williams tested Roberts low down but the talented keeper saved at his left-hand post.

Despite not a full game, Hotspur manager Darren Garmey and assistant Nick Dumbarton will have been impressed and satisfied so far with the build up to their first league match at Flint Town United on August 11.

In their previous friendly, Hotspur won by a convincing 3-0 at Bodedern Athletic, Chris Jones, Dean Garmey and John Littlemore on target.
