Gruff’s so famous fan mail arrives without even his address
PEOPLE caught dumping rubbish illegally will be slapped with £400 on the spot fines under new powers that have come into force in Gwynedd.
The new power came into effect on August 1 and applies to fly-tipping both on public and privately owned land. It is aimed at small-scale fly-tipping offences where a prosecution may be considered to be excessive.
Gwynedd’s £400 fixed penalty notice, which is consistent with the majority of Welsh councils, has a £100 discount applied if paid within 10 days of issue.
The price has been set so high in a bid to act as a deterrent.
Councillor Gareth Griffith, cabinet member for highways and municipal matters said: “We believe that the risk of receiving a £400 penalty will be sufficient to deter the majority of potential offenders and help to decrease the number of fly-tipping incidents. More serious fly-tipping incidents will continue to be dealt with by prosecution, as will anyone who fails to pay a fixed penalty.”
Gwynedd Council works in close partnership with Fly-tipping Action Wales which aims to make fly-tipping socially unacceptable.
Steve Parkinson, Fly-tipping Action Wales’ North Wales coordinator, added: “Fly-tipping Action Wales fully supports the use of the new fixed penalty. However, if you are caught fly-tipping on a larger scale you do run the risk fines of up to £50,000 and/ or imprisonment. Vehicles used to fly-tip waste can also be seized and crushed.”

ANGLESEY singer Gruffydd Wyn Roberts has become so well-known since Britain’s Got Talent that fan mail is getting to his house addressed to him only by his name and the show.
The 22 years-old’s popularity soared after his star performance on the smash-hit TV show, anddespite fans not knowing his exact address, the fan mail is still getting to his home in Amlwch.
Gruff, who came fourth in the world’s biggest talent show in June, has now received a nomination for the best TV performance of the year by the National Reality TV Awards.
He will be up against the likes of Britain’s Got Talent winner, The Lost Voice Guy, 2018 X-Fac- tor winners, Rak-Su and Strictly Come Dancing’s Debbie McGee and Giovanni Pernice.
He said: “Since being on the show, I’ve had quite a bit of fan mail, with only my name and Britain’s Got Talent on the envelope – and somehow it’s made its way to my house.
“There was a lot to open by the time I got back from London after the final, some from old friends of the family, and some from complete strangers from all over the country congratulating me.
“It’s nice, but a bit strange at the same time.
“People are still recognising me in the street too, which is still a bit surreal really.”
Ahead of a concert at his home theatre in Bangor next month, Gruff will make his way down to London on September 25 for the National Reality TV Awards award ceremony – where he will perform on TV for the first time since Britain’s Got Talent.
The singer said“There will be a mixed bag of people there performing with me - I can’t wait.”
After reducing the audience to tears with a sensational audition on Britain’s Got Talent, rugby player Gruff went straight through to the semi-final when judge Amanda Holden hit her golden buzzer.
To thank his community and thousands of fans, he will be hosting a free gig called “An Evening with Gruffydd Wyn and friends”. The event, at Amlwch Port on August 25 between 6pm and 10.45pm, will see Gruff perform with hand-picked local talent, as well as The Voice star, Tesni Jones, from North Wales.
