Beau on the ball to reel off fifth win on bounce

-

BEAUMARIS A developed their golden spell to five straight wins in the North Wales Coast League’s Division A with a pair of home successes at the weekend, including exacting revenge against Bangor City.

Keith Bailey’s team at the Castle green opened the double bill by crushing Colwyn Bay Legion 9-3 in a match postponed a fortnight earlier.

The Friday evening frolic featured three single-figure feats by Barry Harris on 21-7, Brian Begley 21-8 and captain Bailey 21-9.

Saturday’s Beaumaris-Bangor derby was a far more dramatic affair, with a 7-5 result, the hosts edging the games 6-4 and the aggregates balanced at 175-175 points, as they atoned for a 9-3 away drubbing in May. Top solo performer for Beaumaris A was Tim Williams on 21-5.

Llanfairpwll fell victim to a 9-3 defeat at Llanrwst A.

Div B results: Conwy B 10 Bethesda 2 (Dylan Roberts 21-11); Fron Park 8 Benllech 4 (Ian Davies 21-10). Div C: Abergele 9 Holyhead 3 (Dan Rossington 21-13).

Llanfairpwll’s season-long concerns about being sucked into the Welsh Counties’ League relegation zone appear to be easing, now they are 10 points clear of danger.

A 7-3 home triumph over bottom team Coed Talon was crucial, with the villagers gaining a 5-3 lead in the games, plus the bonus from the aggregates of 156-143. Llanfairpwll’s best cards came from Geraint Booth at 21-13 and John Evans 21-14.

Beaumaris, sixth placed in the 12-team table, secured a 7-3 home success over Colwyn Bay Legion, as Barry Harris and John Short both posted 21-9.

New applicants for the Counties’ League for 2019 are Gresford and Llay, who face a showdown, with the winners later taking on this season’s basement side.

Title favourites Bangor City gave their honours’ bid in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Monday Division a fresh boost by overcoming rivals Llanfairpwll 6-4 on their own green.

Games were shared at 4-4 and then City claimed the bonus, and victory overall, because of the aggregates of 142-129, with match-influencing returns by Gwerydd Buckland at 21-7 and Dave Jones 21-9.

Second-placed Beaumaris, trailing by just three points, won 7-3 at Benllech, where Martin Davidson posted 21-9. Other results: Caernarfon 7 Criccieth 3, Holyhead 8 (Dave Rossington 21-4) Academi Llanfair 2, Menai Bridge 2 Llangefni 8.

Llanfairpwll, who raised the Festival Cup in triumph the previous week in the Anglesey/ Bangor and District League’s Wednesday Division, made it a trophy double when they also captured the Tony Hughes Cup in the Monday Division.

Victory was secured by 154117 points against Holyhead at Bangor City’s green in the final of the consolation knockout for the Eric Whitworth Cup. Llanfairpwll’s best contributor was Paul Davies with 21-7.

Llanfairpwll edged closer to the Wednesday Division title in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League – they are 14 points clear - by outperforming main rivals Beaumaris A on their own Castle green.

The 8-2 shocker by Llanfairpwll against the reigning champions was inspired by Gary Buckland at 21-7, while the hosts’ Dave Jones made it 21-8.

Other results: Criccieth 7 Bethesda 3 (Fred Buckley 21-3), Holyhead 4 (Dan Rossington 21-4) Beaumaris B 8 (Dave Edwards 21-2).

Llanfairpwll will take on Llanrwst in the final of the coveted Gwynedd Cup – played out on an eight-a-side basis and settled on the teams’ points’ totals – at Blaenau Ffestiniog tomorrow (Thursday).
