New faces given flying start by City own goal

-

WELSH Alliance Division One newcomers Bodedern Athletic made the ideal start to their season, a second-half own goal sealing a 1-0 result at St Asaph City.

Llangefni Town, one of the teams expected to challenge for the top division title, were held 0-0 on a narrow Ffordd Padarn pitch at Llanberis.

In Division Two, Shaheen Ahmed and Jamie Jones ensured Glan Conwy edged a tight 2-1 decision at Aberffraw, Nathan Moore having put the hosts in front.

Scott Roberts notched the only goal as Mochdre Sports came away from Gaerwen 1-0 victors, while Craig Griffiths and Andy Booker bagged Meliden a 2-1 win in a stormy encounter at Llannerchymedd.

Medd attacked for much of the game at Tyn Parc, but were unable to take their chances.

After a goal-less first half, Meliden grabbed the lead in the 55th minute when Griffiths pounced on a sliced shot that Callum McCormack tried to clear.

Nice passing football resulted in a second for the visitors from Booker 10 minutes from time.

The hosts, who had two players controversially sent off, also lost key defender Dylan Owen with a bad foot injury.

Chris Byast grabbed a late consolation for the Anglesey team, but it was not enough to stave off defeat.

Tonight (Wednesday) will see Holyhead Town make their Division Two debut at home to Y Felinheli, who drew their opener at Penmaenmawr last Saturday.

In Division One, Llangefni Town face a very tough test at Llanrug United, while Mynydd Llandegai make the trip to Llandudno Junction.
