Winners put aside summer of change

-

DESPITE a summer of many changes CPD Y Fali began the 2018/19 campaign in the best possible way with a 4-1 thrashing of Anglesey League new boys Cemaes Bay.

The ins-and-outs of recent weeks include Dan Jones and Barry Rowlands switching roles to manager and assistant respectively, as well as a name variation and a fair few arrivals and departures.

But to their credit Y Fali settled well in their first assignment.

Manager Jones handed debuts to Dan Manning and Guy Mabott at the back, Elliot Patterson in midfield, plus Ian Williams and Dewi Thomas in attack.

Paul Wilding got his chance in goal with Jacob Reid injured.

Cemaes kicked off and went on the offensive, but the hosts dealt with everything efficiently. When Valley had the ball, they played good passing football, Patterson, Paul Williams and Mike Williams controlling the middle.

Ian Williams on the left, Marc Wilson on the right and Thomas in the centre linked up many times, but initially could not find the breakthrough.

The first goal finally came when Ian Williams found Paul Williams, who headed in for 1-0.

Shortly after it was 1-1. Wilding let a cross slip and Liam Rodriguez tapped in from close range.

It was 2-1 to Y Fali at the interval, when a corner was met by Dion Evans.

Although his shot was saved, Ian Williams turned in the rebound.

Manning had picked up an injury so was replaced at the break by new signing Kieran Murphy at left-back.

Evans and Wilson linked up well on the right, the former often overlapping and causing danger.

The score became 3-1 when a looping volley by Paul Williams hit the bar and went in.

When a handball was spotted in the box, Paul Williams had the chance to get his hat-trick.

His penalty was saved, but Thomas followed in for 4-1.

Y Fali were due to visit Bodorgan Juniors last night (Tuesday) and travel to Llanfairpwll this Saturday.
