Citizens delight at twin signing

- Dave Jones

BANGOR City travel to Guilsfield this Saturday boosted by two further quality additions to their squad.

Goalkeeper Chris Mullock and midfielder Sameron Dool joined the Citizens ahead of last weekend’s opening day 5-1 victory over Buckley Town at Nantporth.

Mullock, 29, has made more than 140 Welsh Premier League appearances, representing Cefn Druids, The New Saints, Newtown and Aberystwyth Town.

He is perhaps best known for scoring a stunning goal from his own half for Aber against Rhyl in a WPL clash back in October 2016.

A product of the Wrexham Academy, Mullock is well known to City manager Craig Harrison from their time together at TNS.

Dool arrives from West Brom- wich Albion where he has been since he was 10 years of age.

Harrison said: “I’m really pleased that Sam has joined Bangor as I’ve known him for 18 months or so and he is a player I tried to sign at TNS and also at Hartlepool.

“Sam is a very talented midfielder with a great passing range and great individual ability. He can also score goals from midfield.

“Sam is still only young at 19, but has had a fantastic grounding at WBA, playing lots for the under-18s and U23s, as well as training with the first team as a 17-18 year-old.

“There is no doubt Sam should be playing at a higher level. Bangor City have seen some very good players over the years kick on and get an opportunity back in England and I fully expect that from Sam, once he has fully settled into the group and gets himself 100% match fit, as he hasn’t really played com- petitive football for almost a year. He will be a fantastic signing for Bangor City and certainly one to watch out for in the future. I’m really pleased to have him on board - third time lucky from my point of view.”

Bangor were due to play their second match in the Huws Gray Alliance at Ruthin Town last night (Tuesday).

City’s first-ever HGA encounter was last Saturday’s drubbing of newly-promoted Buckley. Alex Darlington and Les Davies netted two apiece, while Tom Field added a single with a superb free-kick.

City led 4-0 at half time, Keiron Moore replying for the visitors in the second period.

Darlington broke the deadlock in the fifth minute and it was not long before returning hero Davies opened his account with a great leap at the back post following a fine delivery from Jacob Farleigh. Former Connah’s Quay Nomads and Airbus midfielder Field made it 3-0 in the 15th minute when he bent a free kick into the top righthand corner.

Five minutes before the break, Darlington combined with Davies before lobbing in his second.

Buckley settled and made more of a game of it in the second half, Moore reducing the arrears in the 53rd minute.

Davies completed his brace in the 65th minute when he finished clinically after great work down the right between Field and Alex Boss.

City last met this Saturday’s opponents, Guilsfield, en route to lifting the 2007/08 Welsh Cup, Neville Powell’s side winning 6-0 in Powys thanks to four goals from Ashley Stott, supported by singles from Michael Johnston and Karl Noon.
