Tributes paid to much-loved gran and charity fundraiser killed in car crash:

A PENSIONER who died in a crash while her granddaughter was in the car had been fundraising for charity before the horrific incident.

Blodwen Thomas, 71, was killed in a two vehicle collision on the A4080 near Brynsiencyn, Anglesey involving a Ford Fusion and a Ford Focus shortly before 3.30pm on Saturday.

Her granddaughter Lwsi, who was in the car, escaped with minor injuries.

Yesterday, Mrs Thomas’ family have described her as a woman “who would do anything for anyone”, and said she had been fundraising in memory of her daughter on the day of the crash.

In a statement, they said: “Blodwen was joyfully married to Donald for 51 years, loving mother to Sandra, Martin and the late Karen. She was the proudest grandmother to Erin, Gethin, Lwsi, Siwan, Alaw and Elin. Blodwen was in her element taking care of her family’s needs and always put everyone before herself. She was truly the much-loved head of the family and leaves a huge void.”

They added: “The family are particularly in awe of the sensitive and professional way the ambulance staff took care of Lwsi. Thankfully, Lwsi is now at home recovering with the family.”

During her life, Mrs Thomas was instrumental in setting up a nursery school in Brynsiencyn and was the nursery teacher for over 10 years. She was “fondly remembered by many of her former pupils”, the family said”.

By the time her own children had left school she had qualified as a special educational needs nurse, working in both Druid and Cefni hospitals before working at the district hospital in Beaumaris until she retired 10 years ago to look after her grandchildren.

Her family added: “Everyone who knows Blodwen, will remember her as a bubbly, generous, caring and outgoing lady who would go the extra mile for anyone she could help.”

In 2012, her daughter Karen Williams, from Llannerchymedd, died and Mrs Thomas (pictured) began dedicating her time to fundraising.

The family said: “She devoted her spare time to raising money for Cancer Research and was a proud, founding member of Karen’s Chicks, who as a group have themselves raised in excess of £50,000. Indeed, on the morning of the accident she had been raising money in a supermarket in Llangefni.”

Police are asking witnesses to the crash to contact the Western Roads Policing Unit quoting W117061.
