Roberts’ raiders fire title warning

-

LLANGEFNI Town travel to Bodedern Athletic tonight (Wednesday) on the back of two fantastic results, which show why they are so highly-fancied to land the Welsh Alliance League Division One title.

Chris Roberts’ side pulled off a brilliant 5-0 win at Llandudno Albion and, four days earlier, took the spoils 2-0 at last season’s thirdplace finishers Llanrug United.

Now comes another big test against a Bodedern outfit also off to a flyer with two successive victories.

Travelling to Albion with Chris Saxon, Callum Mcminimee, Iwan Jones, Sean Pritchard, Paul Rowlands and new signing from Llanrug Kevin Lloyd all unavailable, Cefni had to make a few changes to the team that saw off United.

However, that did not prevent the Anglesey side starting well, a free kick from Steve Kehoe into the box being volleyed home by Alan Mark Owen on 15 minutes.

It was soon 2-0 when a great run from captain James Saxon saw him deliver across goal for Liam Morris to convert.

Albion came out all guns blazing BANGOR after the interval, but were stunned when Cefni’s Cai Powell-Roberts netted with a deflected effort from all of 35 yards.

Substitutes Cameron Jones and Matthew Jones made a big impact.

Matthew Jones finished into an empty net after he chased down a back-pass and forced Albion’s keeper into a miss-kick.

Two minutes from time, Matthew Jones set up Cameron Jones for number five.

Cefni manager Roberts said: “A result worthy of the performance; the lads once again were outstanding.

“We could have scored more to be honest and found ourselves in really good positions to cause them problems.”

Last Tuesday’s triumph at Llanrug saw Cefni make four switches from the team which drew 0-0 at Llanberis on the opening weekend.

Four minutes before the break, Kehoe’s wind-assisted free-kick from just inside the opposition half saw the ball bounce in front of keeper Dylan Roberts, who fumbled into the path of Alun Roberts and he tapped in the rebound.

Llanrug upped the pressure in the second half and Town keeper Steve Sinclair made two great saves.

On 88 minutes, Cefni hit on the break, Powell-Roberts feeding a through ball to Craig Roberts, who calmly finished to seal the points.
