Town secure first point of the season

-

HOLYHEAD Town picked up their first point in Welsh Alliance Division Two last Saturday – but it could so easily have been all three.

Joe Donovan gave Craig Brodie’s side a second-half lead at joint-table toppers Glan Conwy, who needed a 90th-minute goal from Shaheen Ahmed to salvage a draw.

It was a brilliant performance from the visitors, who were without key players Mike Edwards, Tom Hadley and Jordie Murphy.

The previous Tuesday, the Harbourmen’s opening fixture ended in a 3-2 home loss to Y Felinheli, Sion Davies and Tom Hadley on target. Again on this occasion, Town put in a good display and would have been worthy of at least a draw, but it was not to be.

On the Welsh Alliance scene last Saturday, in Division One Mynydd Llandegai were whipped 5-0 by impressive new boys Prestatyn Sports. Rob Jones notched the winner for Llannerchymedd in a 1-0 outcome at Penmaenmawr in Division Two. Llannefydd sealed a 3-1 decision at Pentraeth, Iwan Williams scoring for the hosts, and Kinmel Bay took the honours 3-2 at Gaerwen, Arwel Williams and Peter Jones responding for the islanders.

Tom Hughes pocketed a treble in Blaenau Amateurs’ 8-2 drubbing of Aberffraw, Steve Jenkins and Nathan Moore netting for Berffro. Midweek results – Wednesday, August 15 Division One: Llandudno Junction 0 Mynydd Llandegai 2 (Matthew Smith, Tomos Williams). Tuesday, August 14 Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two: Aberffraw 2 (Nathan Moore, Richard Roberts) Pentraeth 0; Llannerchymedd 1 (Tom Wyn Roberts) Gaerwen 1 (Dylan Williams).
