Rev up for 20th year of BARC island races
THIS weekend the British Automobile Racing Club (North Western Centre) celebrates 20 years of running race meetings at Anglesey Circuit.
Over this time, the club has seen the circuit develop from a grassroots venue into the highly acclaimed motorsport facility that it is today.
The meeting provides a varied programme of races on Saturday and Sunday with various championships taking part.
The ever-popular CNC Heads Sports and Saloons will race on the International Circuit, while the Caterham Grad- uates, Clubmans Sports Prototypes, Junior Saloon Cars, Michelin Clio Cup and British Superkarts will use the Coastal Circuit.
All championships are at a stage of the season where it is vital to win as many points as possible to improve overall positions.
In the CNC Heads Sports and Saloons Championship, two drivers are in close contention for the overall points lead at the moment.
Paul Rose is the present leader in his Class A Saker on 59 points, while Oliver Thomas is second with 51 points in his Class D Subaru Impreza.
The Clubmans Sports Prototype cars have been competitive for many years and were first seen more than 50 years ago.
The latest cars are split into several classes and are potentially some of the fastest cars at the meeting.
Leading contenders include Clive Wood, Michelle Haywood and Pippa Tanner-Wood.
The other sports car series at this meeting is for the Caterham Graduates. These cars are outwardly similar with just the engines being different.
With high entry numbers they are split across two races and always produce competitive racing.
Saloon car fans will be happy to see Picture: Neil Lambert the Michelin Clio Cup series and the Junior Saloon Car championships back at Anglesey.
These two one-make series always produce close racing and often feature the stars of the future competing and hoping to graduate to more senior championships, especially those on the British Touring Car bill.
Completing the race card, the incredibly quick Superkarts complete the bill and will be out over six races split between several different categories, all of national standard.
There will be three races for the F125 Open Karts and three for the F250, F450 and Division 1 karts.
