Flying start to season for an on-form Cefni

- Football: Welsh Alliance

LLANGEFNI Town could not have faced a harder start to the season, yet have emerged with flying colours.

The Welsh Alliance Division One club’s latest success was a 3-2 victory at impressive new boys Prestatyn Sports last Saturday, achieved with goals from Kevin Lloyd (2) and Dan Thomas.

Prior to that, Chris Roberts’ men won away at Bodedern Athletic, Llandudno Albion and Llanrug United, as well as picking up a 0-0 draw at Llanberis.

Had it not been for a phenomenal start by surprise packages Nantlle Vale – five straight wins under their belt – second-placed Cefni would be top of the tree.

This Saturday brings a first home match of the season for Town when Llandyrnog United visit Talwrn Road.

Bodedern Athletic may have suffered a first defeat in midweek when Llangefni triumphed 2-0 at Cae Tŷ Cristion, Liam Morris and Dan Thomas with the goals, but Ricky Williams’ promoted outfit certainly bounced back last Saturday with a 6-1 home caning of Llanberis.

Eric Leach (3), Steven Whittaker (2) and Ryan Jones shared the goals for third-placed Athletic.

Mynydd Llandegai grabbed a 1-1 draw at Greenfield, Jamie Whitmore equalising.

Previously winless Gaerwen caused Division Two’s shock of the season so far when they triumphed 4-2 at leaders Glan Conwy, Gethin Davies, Dylan Williams, Connor Gordon and Phil McGrath netting for the Anglesey heroes.

Joe Donovan and Marc Thomas were Holyhead Town’s marksmen against Llannefydd in a 2-0 triumph. Rob Jones delivered a double as Llannerchymedd pipped Mochdre Sports 2-1.

Nathan Moore (3) and Richard Roberts led Aberffraw to a 4-1 triumph over Meliden, and it finished 4-0 for Blaenau Amateurs against Amlwch Town, who were involved in their first game of the season.

A 95th-minute equaliser salvaged Penmaenmawr Phoenix a point from a 2-2 draw with Pentraeth, Steffan Taylor with a double for the visitors.
