Comfortable victory puts Cefni on top

-

LLANGEFNI Town went top of Welsh Alliance League Division One with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Llandyrnog United last Saturday.

Goals from Kevin Lloyd, Liam Morris and midfielder Sean Pritchard secured the points.

Cefni dominated from the start, and, on 27 minutes, Morris’ through ball found its way to Lloyd who rounded the keeper, was about to shoot into the empty net but was pulled down from behind.

A penalty was awarded but, for some reason, the referee decided to give out a yellow card for what should have been a blatant red.

Lloyd got up to convert from the spot. On 36 minutes, it was 2-0. Good work down the right by Cai Powell-Roberts saw his cross find Morris, whose shot found its way into the bottom right-hand corner through a crowd of players.

The second half continued in much the same vein, with Llangefni looking bright and confident every time they came forward.

The third goal came on 64 minutes after Cefni kept possession really well, Alan Mark Owen laying the ball off for Pritchard to fire home.

Llangefni manager Chris Roberts said: “It was a good day at the office.

“Although the scoreline should have been more, I was satisfied with the team’s performance and how comfortable the win was.”

Mynydd Llandegai led 2-0 at St Asaph City through an Andy Barker pair, but two very late replies earned Saints a 2-2 draw.

In Division Two, Llannerchymedd went top after beating Kinmel Bay 2-0.

Rob Jones and Tudur Williams provided the crucial second-half goals for the home side.
