Cefni keep on winning:

-

LANGEFNI Town carried their dynamic league form into the FAW Trophy as they saw off Gaerwen 3-0 at Lon Talwrn last Saturday.

Cefni manager Chris Roberts made seven changes to the side that beat Greenfield the previous weekend in Welsh Alliance Division One, Liam Ewing, Andy Sinclair, Steve Kehoe, Liam Morris, Paul Rowlands, Iwan Jones and Marvin Pritchard all starting.

In an evenly contested first half, Matthew Jones almost opened the scoring on 30 minutes, his looping shot from 20 yards rebounding off the crossbar.

Dan Thomas eventually gave Cefni the lead on the stroke of half time, tow- ering above Gaerwen’s defence to head home.

Former Gaerwen striker Morris doubled Cefni’s lead on 55 minutes, beating his man to finish well from 12 yards.

With just 10 minutes remaining, substitute Owen sealed the win against the Division Two underdogs with a tap in at the far post following good work from Marvin Pritchard.

Llangefni boss Roberts said after the game: “We always knew that Gaerwen would up their game coming to Lon Talwrn and that was the case.

“We found it hard to get going in the opening 45 minutes and were wasteful in possession.

“A few harsh words were said to the players at half time and I felt that we came out in the second half much better, moving the ball well and with a quick tempo to our play.

“We made seven changes to the team that started in the league last weekend and it was good to give a few players coming back from injury etc some minutes.

“All in all, a poor performance but another win to keep our unbeaten run going and we progress into the next round.”

Division One side Bodedern Athletic were given a really tough battle by Division Two visitors Pentraeth before eventually prevailing 8-7 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

James Burgess and Casey Boylan (pen) struck for Boded, who were pegged back before going through on spot-kicks.

Glantraeth of the Gwynedd League gained revenge over Penmaenmawr Phoenix of the Welsh Alliance with a 4-3 victory.

Dylan Williams (2) Ben Roberts and Tom Hadley were on the mark for Glan, who lost 6-4 to Pen in the Welsh Cup a fortnight earlier.

Mynydd Llandegai eliminated Aberffraw 7-4 in an 11-goal bonanza.

Craig Whelan (3), Jamie Whitmore (2), Ben Parry and Gwyn Roberts provided the Llandegai goals, Nathan Moore and Steve Jones two apiece for the visitors.

Holyhead Town exited 3-1 at the hands of Llandudno Albion, Asa Thomas with a consolation for the Harbourmen.

Jude Gallagher and Steve Lloyd were Amlwch Town’s marksmen in a 5-2 home defeat at Llanberis, while Anglesey League Llanfairpwll were swept aside 5-0 by Welsh Alliance travellers Y Felinheli.
