Go Pink and Know Your Lemons Campaign

-

TENOVUS Cancer Care is inviting supporters to ‘Go Pink and Know Your Lemons’ to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Wales’ leading cancer charity has teamed-up with the US-based Worldwide Breast Cancer charity for their Know Your Lemons campaign, which aims to increase the awareness of the signs of symptoms of breast cancer.

Tenovus Cancer Care has combined the campaign with its annual Go Pink fundraising initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness month, taking place in October.

While survival rates are improving, 11,400 women die from breast cancer every year in the UK. Tenovus Cancer Care wants every woman and every GP to be aware of the signs, because early diagnosis and quick referral saves lives.

They also need to raise vital funds so they can invest in even more breast cancer research and services like the free Support Line.

Dawn Wilson, 36, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. Despite going to her GP as soon as she found a lump she wasn’t diagnosed for months and was recently given the devastating news her cancer was terminal.

She said: “I’d been visiting my GP for weeks but I didn’t really tick the normal boxes; I was under 35 and had a clear family history. When I finally saw my oncologist they asked why I’d left it so late. It blew my mind because the delay had been out of my control.

“Tenovus Cancer Care’s free Support Line was invaluable after I was diagnosed. The nurse I spoke to had a real impact in my life and helped me come to terms with my diagnosis.

“While I’m well enough it’s important to raise awareness, so that people like my daughters won’t face the same experience as me.”

Tenovus say: “No woman should have to die because her symptoms weren’t spotted soon enough. That’s why we’re asking people to Go Pink for Tenovus Cancer Care this October. Whether it’s a simple raffle, bake sale or coffee morning, every penny counts.

“Help us fund more cancer research, raise awareness, and continue to support people like Dawn. Get your free Go Pink fundraising pack at tenovuscancercare.org.uk/getinvolved/breast-cancer-awarenessmonth/ or call 0808 808 1010.”
