City hit for six as organisation and persistence tells

-

BANGOR City Men’s hockey team suffered a 6-2 defeat at home to NWHL Division Three visitors Northop Hall last Saturday.

Hall began the encounter strongly, hitting the post early on before firing in two goals in a matter of minutes.

Dave Paterson drew a save from the visiting goalkeeper as Bangor looked for a way back in, but it was the Flintshire side which struck next with a third goal.

The second half of the first period was a different story as Bangor began to find a foothold.

Matt Smith pulled one back on 25 minutes, before they netted another shortly afterwards via Janer Yanesov’s fierce drag flick which found the bottom corner.

Shortly after the half-time restart, Northop made it 4-2 to restore a two-goal cushion.

Both sides then had chances to add to the scoresheet, with City keeper Rayshauun Suen pulling off some great reaction stops to keep the home side in it.

At the other end, Tomos Hughes had a shot cleared off the line.

However, in the end Northop’s organisation and persistence told, as they added another two late on.

Bangor seconds endured an 8-1 reverse away against Northop Hall seconds. Marlon Allison grabbed City’s goal.

The first team travel to Sale this Saturday (12.30pm), while the seconds play host to Whitchurch at the Brailsford Centre 3G pitch (2.15pm).
