NEED A LIFT?

-

ATRUCK wedged under a bridge for three days has finally been removed ... along with the bridge itself.

The red Martex HGV got stuck underneath the bridge on the A5114 at Ffordd Glanhwfa in Llangefni, Anglesey, inset, at around 3pm last Thursday.

Signs on the bridge said its height was 13’3” – around 3.9 metres.

But despite the lorry carrying a ‘Convoi Exceptionnel’ sign on the front, indicating it was carrying an oversized load, it was driven underneath the bridge before becoming trapped halfway, leaving the road blocked

Upon inspection by a crane and specialist lifting company, Bob Francis Crane Hire, a decision was made to remove the entire bridge, due to the fact that the vehicle was wedged under the bridge to such a degree that it was actually supporting it.

Martin Davies from Bob Francis Crane Hire said on Friday: “We have been out to assess the situation and the lorry is pretty well wedged under the bridge to the point that it has lifted the bridge up upon impact.

“Because the lorry is now supporting the bridge, it means it won’t be able to be removed until the bridge is taken off completely.” The company brought two 100-tonne capacity cranes to the site to lift th the redundant br bridge off in one pi piece.

The company th then planned to ta take it on a speci cial trailer to th their yard in Gw Gwalchmai.

The cranes ar arrived on site at ar around 10am an and by 3.30pm th the truck had be been freed.

Once the ve vehicle had been removed, the cranes lifted up the disused railway lines from the bridge and successfully removed them by 4.30pm.

Finally the bridge itself was removed and the job was completed around 20 minutes later.

The road remained closed while the area was cleared up.
