Substitute Evans rescues a point for Hotspur in classic six-goal feast

-

HOLYHEAD HOTSPUR should be in for a good test this Saturday when they host Corwen in the first round of the Welsh Cup (2.30pm),

The visitors lead the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division and may fancy their chances of an upset at Huws Gray Alliance strugglers Hotspur.

Goalkeeper Carl Jones will be back between the sticks for Holyhead, who were thankful to substitute Marc Evans for an 88th minute equaliser in last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Buckley Town, a result which lifted the Holy Islanders off the bottom of the table.

With the wind in their favour, Bucks were two-up inside the first half-hour.

A corner from Jake Roberts saw Phil Molyneux race through the pack in the goalmouth and head firmly past Dan Williams.

Josh Jones powerfully nodded in another flag-kick to double their advantage.

Hotspur pulled a goal back on 31 minutes when Harry Galeotti produced some fine dribbling play on the right before crossing into the six-yard box and John Littlemore slid the ball into the net.

The hosts were level within four minutes of the restart. The conditions saw away keeper Joey Makaruk misjudge the wind and the ball fell nicely to Mel McGinness, who crossed low for Luke McGivern to make it 2-2.

All to play for now and young Dan Williams was in action several times while, at the other end, Littlemore’s low delivery from the right evaded everyone and a touch was only needed to get Hotspur ahead.

The visitors regained the lead in the encounter after 70 minutes when Adam Eden was given too much room and fired a great shot beyond Williams.

Two minutes from time, McGinness played in Evans, making a second debut for the club after a long wait for international clearance, who slipped the ball home.

There was disappointment for Evans two minutes later when he again had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside.
