FRIENDS have paid tribute to the man who was found dead in a Llangefni pub toilet last Tuesday (October 16).

Philip Hughes, from Aberffraw, was found dead in the toilet of the Market Vaults pub in Llangefni just after midnight. His death is no longer being treated as suspicious by police.

A North Wales Police Spokesman said: “Whilst the death was unexpected, the man died of natural causes.”

Mr Hughes was known to all who knew him as Phil Bach, and Bryan Owen, who represents Aberffraw on Anglesey Council, said the village will “never be the same.”

He said: “I’ve known him for years and we’d always chat about football. He supported Wrexham and Everton but Aberffraw was his team.

“He would take pride in following the team and would collect money from supporters on the bus.

“I had quite a soft spot for him. Phil was a wonderful character and Aberffraw will never be the same without him.”

Bethan Parry, of Llangefni, said: “He’d go on the bus to Llangefni having a chat with the driver or anyone he knew.

“Once in town he’d visit the betting shop, play a fruit machine, drink some cola and then head back to Aberffraw. He was just a nice man.”

Police said it is not yet clear how Mr Hughes died but investigations are ongoing. A spokesman added: “The family of the man have been informed and are being supported by specialist police officers.”
