MENAI BRIDGE COMMUNITY HERITAGE

TRUST: The Menai Heritage Centre Museum at Canolfan Thomas Telford Centre (opposite Waitrose) is open from 10am-5pm every Wednesday and Thursday until November 1. Entrance £3, accompanie­d children (under 16) free.

GWYNEDD ARCHAEOLOG­ICAL TRUST: In the centenary anniversar­y of the armistice, Gwynedd Archaeolog­ical Trust has been running a First World War Memorials recording project, funded by Cadw, and with the help of volunteers. On Sunday, November 4 (10am-4pm) GAT has a special open day at Menai Bridge memorial hall. You’ll be able to find out more on the project as well as view a photograph­ic exhibition of some of the poignant images captured so far. No need to book a place. Free tea and coffee. The open day will also feature Menai Heritage’s ‘Menai Heritage and World War I’ community project. Supported by the HLF, this project focused on the effect the Great War had on the people of Menai Bridge. There will be two guided walks on the day, visiting the First World War memorial on nearby Church Island. KIDS TAKEOVER: Menai Heritage’s Bridges Exhibition in Menai Bridge will be taken over for a day by a group of children from a local school. On Thursday, October 25, year 5 and 6 students from Ysgol y Borth will be joining the Menai Heritage volunteers to learn how a museum is run and to assist in greeting visitors and showing them the exhibition. Entrance to the museum that day will be free. The activities on the day will include storytelli­ng sessions about shipwrecks, particular­ly the Royal Charter. The Takeover Day falls on the 159th anniversar­y of this famous shipwreck off the coast of Moelfre.
