Hotspur still rooted to basement

- Huws Gray Alliance roundup

HOLYHEAD Hotspur remain rooted to the foot of the table after their 2-0 loss at Prestatyn Town, writes John Bridgwater.

First-half goals from Alex Jones on 25 and 33 minutes proved enough for the Seasiders, who returned to winning ways to avenge an early season defeat.

Porthmadog failed to fully capitalise on the top three sides being in Welsh Cup action as they snatched a last-gasp 3-3 draw against Buckley Town at rain-soaked Y Traeth.

Port have now picked up a modest two points from their last three outings, and are still 12 points behind leaders Airbus UK Broughton.

In the end, the hosts were grateful to a terrific strike from Gruff J Williams four minutes into injury time for rescuing a draw in tough conditions.

Enjoying plenty of possession in unrelenting rain, Port took a 20th-minute lead when Dan Descale fired in from a tight angle off the far post, but Buckley hit back with Jake Roberts chipping Paul Pritchard six minutes before half time. Shaun Tinsley then put the visitors in front on 57 minutes and five minutes later Roberts bagged his second with a 20-yard free kick.

Port dug deep and hit back with substitute Rob Evans heading in a cross from Iwan Lewis on 64 minutes to keep them in the hunt.

Buckley keeper Joe Makaruk pulled off a couple of superb saves to deny the hosts, but late pressure paid off when Williams drilled his shot into the net from the edge of the box for a last-gasp leveller.

Conwy Borough maintained their resurgence by making it six unbeaten with a 3-1 success against lowly Holywell Town at Y Morfa. Corrig McConigle was again among the goals with a brace, giving Conwy the lead before Gethin Maxwell doubled the advantage moments later.

Josh Maldon pulled one back with a terrific free kick on 32 minutes, but McConigle’s second from the penalty spot in injury time sealed the home win.

Three players were red-carded in the second half, Aaron Pomeyie for Holywell then, after the late penalty, visiting keeper Mike Platt and Conwy’s Cory Williams also saw red following a heated exchange of words.

Conwy have now won four and drawn two of their last six outings, while defeat kept Holywell – who have lost three of their last four games – third-bottom.
