We should be proud of this technology developed here
AFTER a difficult couple of weeks with announcements of job losses and challenges for communities across Anglesey, it has been good recently to visit and talk with individuals and companies who are working on ideas and developments that could be of real benefit to Anglesey in the short, medium and long term.
Last week I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to engineering company Bico in Beaumaris, a very innovative company that work to incredibly high standards.
I also visited Minesto once again to hear of the progress their project at Holyhead Deep is making.
This is a hugely exciting development that I’m sure you’re all aware of by now and one that I have done everything I can to support.
Welsh and UK Government must be willing to look at new ways of supporting it so it can reach its full potential!
This is technology that we should be really proud is being developed here on Anglesey – Minesto’s work in this area is pioneering and it is very, very exciting to think of the potential of this project in producing clean, green energy off the coast of Anglesey, and exporting the technology to the world.
In the Assembly recently I was able to raise the matter of Ynys Môn’s bid to host the International Island Games here on the island in 2025.
The executive committee of the Island Games internationally has been very supportive of our plans and I’m very grateful to them for that, and we will be submitting our final bid in a matter of weeks, so this is a crucial time.
This is a priceless opportunity for Anglesey, which will be a significant economic boost – it will be good for health, fitness and sports and leave a legacy for many years.
Last week I called on Welsh Government to show a renewed focus in terms of the reopening of Lein Amlwch.
The reopening of the Gaerwen-Amlwch railway line is a very important, transformative project, and should be given priority by Welsh Government in order to secure a crucial link to jobs and further opportunities for the north of Anglesey.
Here we have a number of opportunities that, if Governments throw their full support behind them, would be a big boost to our island which has taken some heavy hits recently.
I will continue to give my all to help those who have been affected by the recent announcements regarding Wylfa Newydd and Rehau, and in helping to ensure new, exciting opportunities to reinvigorate our island are fully taken advantage of.
