Man had £1k of drugs up backside

-

A MAN found with illegal drugs hidden up his backside has been locked up for four years.

Ryan John Eustace admitted possessing heroin and cocaine, both illegal drugs of class A, with intent to supply when he appeared for sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court via videolink from custody.

He also admitted possessing a small amount of cannabis for his own use.

The 26-year-old, of Maley Close, Liverpool, was said to have previous convictions for drug supply.

Judge Huw Rees said: “North Wales is no place for you. If you bring drugs here you are not welcome.”

The court heard Eustace was a passenger in a Mercedes stopped by police officers at Ffordd Penbryn, Bethesda, on January 24.

Richard Edwards, prosecuting, said the officers smelled cannabis in the vehicle and a search revealed Eustace had a small amount of cannabis.

“He was taken to a police station where a strip search was conducted and it was found he had concealed a package in his rectum,” the barrister said.

Eustace, the judge remarked, had initially refused to co-operate with the removal of the package and an X-ray in hospital proved inconclusive.

He later removed the package and it was examined and found to contain drugs worth £1,230 – 58 individual wraps of heroin worth £580 and 31 of cocaine with a value of £650. Mr Edwards said the drugs were intended for street deals.

Dafydd Roberts, defending, said: “The best point I can make on his behalf is his guilty plea made at the very first opportunity.”

Mr Roberts said Eustace was a courier bringing drugs to North Wales and expected to be paid £300.

Mr Roberts added Eustace was a long-term drug user but had stopped using illegal substances and was determined to stay drugfree on his release from prison.
