EX-COUNCILLOR IN COURT OVER ‘SEX ASSAULT’
A FORMER Anglesey councillor appeared before a judge in connection with charges of sexual assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Clifford Lloyd Everett, of Nant y Felin, Holyhead, was not asked to enter pleas to the charges during the brief hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court.
The 58-year-old was asked only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality.
His barrister, Duncan Bould, said the issue of mental capacity needed to be addressed and investigated further, and asked the judge to adjourn the plea hearing for this purpose.
Mr Bould said the proposed timetable for the exchange of documents and other orders could be maintained and suggested the plea hearing in midApril. A provisional date for trial was set for July.
When Everett appeared before magistrates last month, he faced a charge of “doing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice” and two charges of sexual assault.
The first charge alleges he altered dates and erased a hard disk belonging to the town hall “thus deleting all recorded data and footage”.
The assault charges allege that, on July 20, 2017, he touched a woman without her consent and that touching was sexual. The other charge is a like offence alleged to have occurred on August 2, 2017.
Judge Huw Rees granted Everett unconditional bail.
At the time of the alleged offences, Everett was clerk of Holyhead Town Council.
