Silent comedian tells us to enjoy life more

-

THIS week we talk to Tape Face, who will be coming to Pontio in Bangor on September 20.

QATell us about your family

I’m not sure what you mean but I once had a pot plant that I looked after for quite some time. It was a rubber plant. I called him Robert.

QWhat are you best known for?

AI am known for many many things but the biggest thing that people know me for is making oven gloves sing. I went on this show as I thought it would be a brilliant platform for me to be seen on and show off my singing oven gloves. It worked and now people like seeing what else I do with everyday objects, iconic music and audience members onstage.

QTell us about your show

AThe show is called The Tape Face Show. We are touring this show all over the UK and it involves me doing more of what people expect and then a few surprises as well. The show will have me fly a plane, play tennis and there is a three-minute fart joke as well. You will also never put your shoes on the same way again after seeing this show. It’s a wonderful adventure that reminds audiences to remember to play more and there is a nice twist at the

end of the show.

QWhen is it running from/to?

AIt’s running from Big Jimmy. One of the

reasons we are on tour is we owe him money for cat sitting.

QWhat can audiences expect?

AAudiences can expect nothing. It’s the best way to go into a show. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.

That way with such low expectations the chances are that I will do something that will be fun and then the enjoyment level is much higher as the expectations were nice and low.

If you must expect something then expect award-winning comedy from one of the best silent entertainers in the world.

QTell us five things which make your show great?

ATape, eyeliner, tape, hair product and tape.

QWhat’s your favourite part of the show?

AI really like that bit after the time I go with the thing to the other part and the music is in perfect time with the lights and the whole

audience get it at the one moment together. That part is my favourite.

QTell us about the costumes

AI don’t have a costume. I just wear the same grey jeans, black and white-striped top and grey jacket every single day of my life.

QWhat’s the best song from the performance and who’s it by?

AI think the best song would be John Lennon & Yoko Ono. Two Minutes Silence. It really popular as I hear it all the time. Mostly I hear it in the two-minute gap between other things.

QTell us what’s good about the venue

AThe walls are nice, there’s at least four of them which really bring out the amazing qualities of the roof. The other thing I like about the

venue is the running electricity they provide and the seats for an audience to sit in.

QTell us a little known fact about yourself

AI am not very good at remembering little facts.

QWho’s the biggest celebrity you’ve met?

ABig Jimmy was pretty big. He is an agent that I met in LA. He was managing a guy called Joey Delaware. Joey was performing at a comedy night that I was performing at and he was having a good time until he thought he was getting attacked by wolves. Big Jimmy found it funny but of all the “celebrities” I have met Big Jimmy was the biggest.

QOnce the tour ends what are your plans?

AProbably to start the next tour. Life is a series of tours and the gaps in between are filled with the silence of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
