City continue with summer recruitment

-

BANGOR City have continued their pre-season recruitment with the signing of Ash Ruane.

The 34-year-old spent last year at Aberystwyth Town but has decided to join the club under new manager Stephen Vaughan Jr.

Ruane, who has also been known to play in the wide positions, is a veteran of the Welsh system, having also donned the colours of Rhyl, Connah’s Quay, Cefn Druids and Colwyn Bay.

“Ash will add valuable experience to the squad,” said the new boss.

“He is a proven goalscorer at the level above and with the mix of younger players plus himself and the other lads who have also played in the Welsh system, I believe we have a good variety that will stand us in good stead going into the new season.”

Last week, the club also confirmed the signing of Lennie Armstrong to add to the revamp of the squad.

The 19-year-old is a centre-back who hails from London.

Armstrong spent the last half of last season in Malta with Mosta and previously had a spell playing in Sweden for Bodens BK.

Manager Vaughan Jr believes the addition of the youngster will provide much-needed competition in a vital area of the pitch and is looking forward to seeing him thrive under the pressure of the FAW Championship North.

He said: “Lennie has been training with us since we came back for pre-season.

“Unfortunately for him, he had a bad knock on his ankle and missed the first two pre-season games but got 90 minutes on Saturday.

“I know him from Mosta and he’s a young centre-back who has all the attributes to develop into a very good player.”

“He will add much-needed competition in the centre of the backline and I’m very pleased to have him on board.”

Earlier this month, the Citizens swooped for the quartet of Emmanuel Agyemang, Lewis Foster, Harry Blackburn and Paul Cliff to their ranks for the upcoming season, but the status of which division they will be plying their trade in remains in doubt.

The club also confirmed that central defender Lucas German Surber has arrived at Nantporth following a spell with Sancolombano Calcio.

Goalkeeper Gennaro Cuomo and fellow Italian Massimo De Maria have also committed to the set-up.

Agyemang is a versatile forward player who can operate in their midfield or up-front, and he arrives in North Wales after spells with Novara and Maltese Premier Division side Mosta.

Foster began his career as a trainee at Crewe Alexandra before signing a two-year scholarship at Salford City but the defender failed to make an impact with the first team and was subsequently released earlier this summer.

Blackburn joins the club from Clitheroe where he worked closely with newly-appointed assistant manager Dave Mannix, and Cliff will be no stranger to fans of Welsh football following his efforts with Rhyl and Holywell Town in previous years.

All transfers are subject to approval from the Football Association of Wales.
