TRIO IN COURT IN CONNECTION WITH CROSSBOW KILLING
Men charged with perverting course of justice:
THREE men appeared in court last week in connection with the crossbow killing of a pensioner.
Gavin Jones, 36, from Bryngwran near Holyhead, is charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after a 74-year-old was shot with a crossbow.
He appeared from custody before magistrates at the Caernarfon Justice Centre.
During the five-minute hearing, he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
Flanked by two dock officers and wearing a maroon T-shirt and dark trousers, he nodded to two men who sat in the public gallery of the court.
Magistrates were told Jones was before the court having allegedly committed an offence of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by doing an act, namely the arson of a Land Rover Discovery vehicle, on June 3.
The court clerk said the charge can only be tried in the crown court and asked the bench to send the matter to the higher court.
Prosecutor Diane Williams said the case is linked to the case of Terrence Michael Whall, who has been charged with the murder of Gerald Corrigan.
She asked the bench to remand Jones in custody.
Defence solicitor Deborah Davies said there was little she could say about bail and made no application.
Remanding Jones in custody, bench chairman Peter Evans said Jones will appear before a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court on August 27 for a further hearing.
Mr Corrigan was shot outside his home near Holyhead late on Good Friday as he adjusted a satellite dish.
He was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd by ambulance and later transferred to the specialist trauma unit at the Royal Stoke University hospital.
He died from his injuries at the hospital on May 11.
The retired lecturer in photography and video had moved to Anglesey more than 20 years ago from Lancashire.
Darren Jones, 41, and Martin Roberts, 34, appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Jones and Roberts are alleged to have conspired with Gavin Jones in setting fire to a Land Rover after Mr Corrigan was killed.
Roberts, who was wearing an Adidas top, gave his address as James Street, Bangor.
Jones, who wore a black T-shirt, spoke to confirm his name, age and nationality and gave his address as the Bryn Ogwen estate, Penrhosgarnedd.
Both men waved at friends and family from the dock and no bail application was made for either man.
They were remanded in custody until August 23 when they will appear at Mold Crown Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kearney, the senior investigating officer for the case, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all those who have assisted the enquiry to date.
“However, I believe there are still people in our community who have key information in relation to this murder. Please come forward and speak to the investigation team in total confidence.”
Whall, of Garddefa, Bryngwran, appeared in court last month charged with murdering Mr Corrigan.
The 38-year-old was remanded in custody until aformal plea is entered on September 5.
