BIKER IS AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER SERIOUS CRASH
A BIKER was airlifted to hospital after a serious crash that closed the A55 in both directions.
Two air ambulances, police and paramedics were called to the accident near J8 of the A55 westbound carriageway in Llanfairpwll at 2.20pm on Monday.
A man in his 30s was flown to Stoke hospital’s trauma centre with serious injuries.
Officers closed the A55 in both directions following the crash to allow two air ambulances to land on the road.
North Wales Police say they are now investigating “the manner of riding” of two bikers prior to accident and have asked for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
A statement published on the force’s Facebook page said: “Appeal for Witnesses to the serious injury collision on the West-bound carriageway between junction 8 and junction 7 which are situated on the Anglesey side of Britannia Bridge.
“If you were travelling along this route between 14:25 hours and 14:35 hours today Monday 26th of August and have any information including any Dash-Cam footage, to assist the investigating officer. We are investigating also the manner of riding of 2 motorcycles prior to the collision. Please forward your details FAO Sergeant 1761 Meurig Jones of the Western Road Policing unit based at Llandegai.”
Traffic came to a standstill in both directions following the crash, with tailbacks stretching back for miles on the island and mainland. The eastbound carriageway re-opened around 4.15pm, before the westbound carriageway opened almost four hours later.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101, quoting reference X124333.
