GCSE RESULTS 2019

-

HUNDREDS of teenagers across Anglesey were in celebration mode last Thursday after receiving their final GCSE results.

The island’s five secondary schools were a flurry of activity as pupils found out how far their work over the past five years had got them as they prepare for new chapters in their lives.

The headteacher of Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi in Holyhead hailed the school’s results, which represented some of their best ever since the introduction of the single entry examination process.

“Having recently received excellent A Level results, we are extremely proud of this year’s GCSE group for performing so well,” said Adam Williams.

“The pupils’ first results are the results that count towards the school performance measures which could have resulted in added pressure.

“However, our pupils have responded extremely well to the new demands and we have seen further improvements this year in Welsh, Science and English, as well as many of our non-core subjects.

“Our results in English are the best we have ever achieved.”

He added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated and committed staff that have given up their holidays and weekends to support our pupils in the extra sessions.

“The support our students receive is exceptional and the governors and I are extremely grateful for the dedication our staff give year on year to help the future of Holyhead to achieve their full potential.”

The headteacher of Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in Amlwch was equally full of praise for his pupils.

“After a lot of hard work and teamwork, the students are now reaping the rewards,” said Aaron Bayley. “I’d like to thank each and every individual student for their perseverance and commitment. They now have difficult decisions ahead over a short period of time in terms of their future.

“The school will now do everything we can to support the young people over the next few days to make the right choices.

“On a personal note I would like to thank all of our staff for another committed year and for their continued support and enthusiasm.

“Well done to everyone as we look to build to the future and provide the best possible opportunities for the next group of youngsters.”

Anglesey Council’s portfolio holder for education, Cllr Meirion Jones, said: “We are proud of our young people’s success.

“The results today are a testament to years of hard work and it is important that we celebrate the successes, abilities and devotion of our young people.

“This is also an opportunity to thank all of the staff at our schools who work hard to support the pupils in gaining these qualifications, and have also started to prepare for all of the changes facing education.”
