Holyhead and 1876 through in Welsh Cup

- Football

ASA Thomas scored a hattrick to make it 13 goals in seven matches this season as Holyhead Town beat Amlwch Town 5-3 in the Welsh Cup first qualifying round.

Ryan Lees added a double for the Harbourmen, who had pipped Amlwch 6-5 in a league thriller just a fortnight earlier.

Ryan Rowlands (2) and Chris Byast (pen) were on target for Amlwch, who led twice in another enthralling clash at Lon Bach.

Bangor 1876 won their first-ever Welsh Cup tie, recovering from a goal down to defeat Llandudno Athletic 4-1, Jamie Petrie (pen), Cameron Barry, Cian Williams and Dylan Summers-Jones sharing the goals.

Lee Stokes had earlier given Athletic the lead but Mel Jones’ men proved too strong and continued their excellent start to their inaugural season.

Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs edged a 5-4 thriller at Bro Goronwy after extra time.

Player-manager Ceri Roberts (2), Iwan Jones, Sion Roberts and Alun Hughes saw the Welsh Alliance Division One side through, but it was a great effort from the Gwynedd League side as a hat-trick from Jac Thomas and a goal from Ross Mark ran them so close.

Callum Parry’s hattrick, including two spotkicks, saw Llanrwst United squeeze through 3-2 at Gaerwen.

Iwan Williams and Shaun Monument scored the goals for the hosts.

It was another tough afternoon for Pentraeth as they were hammered 8-2 by Glan Conwy.

Keating Hoe-Pike (3), Ben Jarvis (2), Jamie Jones (pen), Matty Sykes and Darren Landers scored the goals for Glan with Iwan Parry scoring a brace for Pentraeth.

Gwalchmai were also on the receiving end as they were beaten 7-2 by Llannefydd.

A hat-trick from Tomos Jones, two penalties from Elgan Roberts, Nico Clwyd and Lewis Jones scoring the Llannefydd goals, with Mark Jones and Corey Sinnott with consolations for the islanders.

Menai Bridge Tigers were unable to fulfil their tie at Mynydd Llandegai, who progress automatically to the second qualifying round on a walkover.
