Amlwch lose thriller against Phoenix

THE weather was the big winner last weekend as most of the local football fixtures fell victim to the heavy and persistent rain.

Llangefni Town’s Cymru North clash with Ruthin Town and Bangor 1876’s FAW Trophy game at Llanrwst United were among those that were postponed.

In the football which did take place, Penmaenmaw­r Phoenix are up to second in Welsh Alliance Division Two after beating Amlwch Town 5-3 in a thriller.

Dan Williams and Alfie Caldecott both scored twice for the home side with Ethan Jones also on target while Ryan McKean, Ryan Rowlands and Luke McGivern scored the goals for Amlwch.

A late penalty from Marc Evans sealed Gwalchmai a 3-2 victory at Pentraeth.

Gwyndaf Hughes and Rees Roberts scored for the hosts, who had equalised late on only to lose out right at the end.

Gareth Allman and Darren Roberts were also on target for Gwalchmai.

In the Gwynedd League, Trearddur Bay Bulls moved five points clear at the top after beating Caergybi 3-1 at Lon Isallt.

Justin Williams, Tom Hadley and Dave Webb all scored for Richard Owen’s side, Nathan Lewis responding.

Wayne Thomas scored a hat-trick as Llangoed hammered Bethesda Athletic 6-1 in a game switched to the 3G pitch at Bangor City.

Sam Gregson (2) and Llion Roberts bagged the other goals for the winners, Andy Clarke on target for Bethesda.

Ogwen Tigers won 3-2 at Llanystumd­wy, Marc Wilson, Gethin Parry and Tomos Eames (pen) scoring for the Tigers after Darren Parry and Kyle Williams had put the hosts ahead.

Cemaes Bay claimed top spot in the Anglesey League after an 8-1 thrashing of Llanfairpw­ll.

Steven Whittaker netted a hat-trick to take his season’s total to 20, Daniel Jones (2), Dafydd Jones, Luke McKittrick and Paul Williams also scoring with Kieran Owen replying.

Bodorgan beat Llandegfan 6-0 with Ioan Thomas (3), Luke Allaway (2) and Aaron Jones splitting the goals.
