CABLE CAR BIRTH NAMED FOR SINGING STAR OVER HIS BOYHOOD HIT

- Lydia Morris

ALED Jones revealed he will “die happy” after Coronation Street named one of Gemma Winter’s quads after the singer.

The Songs of Praise star from Anglesey, who appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain (GMB) to promote his new album with Russell Watson, told Susanna Reid how his social media has been inundated as a result of the Corrie storyline.

Viewers of the ITV soap watched Gemma, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, give birth on board a cable car over the Great Orme during a getaway to Llandudno with fiance Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) recently.

The scenes, filmed in North Wales earlier this year, came after her waters broke whilst 80ft up in the air and with the help of a 999 call-handler, Chesney was forced to deliver the first of the quads.

The characters later explained they were naming the firstborn Aled – honouring the paramedic on the scene at the Orme who rushed them to hospital.

But GMB presenter Susanna Reid revealed the soap had in fact named the baby after the Walking in the Air singer.

Explaining the reason why, Jones said: “It’s hilarious. I’ve had more social media interaction due to this story.

“Basically, she gave birth in a cable car above Llandudno and called the child Aled, because it was walking in the air.

“It’s brilliant, I can die happy now.”

After being assisted to the ground by cable car staff in the scenes aired recently, the characters

Huw Jones has bought 50 Friesland ewes and plans to start milking them early next year.

Before then he needs to were rushed to hospital in Llandudno, where Gemma underwent an emergency C-section to deliver the three other babies.

Fortunately, despite their poorly-timed arrival, the quads all survived and were all given Welsh names, in honour of the medical staff who helped bring them into the world.

The two boys were named Bryn and Aled, while the girls were named Carys and Llio – although they pronounce the name as Cleo.

While it is not known if Bryn was named after purchase a mobile milking parlour and a machine to rear his lambs.

But his main priority is to buy a high-grade ram, to underpin his flock.

To help him on his way, he’s been awarded Wales YFC’s 2019 Agricultural Bursary.

The money, donated the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales, was handed over at the recent Lantra Land-based Learner Awards ceremony in Llandrindod Wells.

“This will be huge for me when trying to develop the new business,” said Huw.

Lee Pritchard, of Wales YFC, said Huw was targeting a niche but potentially lucrative market.

“I’m sure it will be a success as it’s different,” he added.

Welsh singing superstar Bryn Terfel, the name Carys comes from the Welsh word caru – meaning ‘love’ in English.

Viewers had much praise for the scenes, with many applauding the decision to give the new arrivals Welsh names.

One fan of the soap, said: “Loved that they have given the babies Welsh names. The names they picked are all lovely.”

Another said the names were “pretty cool,” whilst one fan commented that they “love the names they have given the quads!”

“Gemma will have to get her tongue around the name Llio,” another viewer commented.
