Birthday celebrations operatic style

-

WHEN former opera singer and vocal coach Marian Bryfdir was planning her birthday celebration, she realised it coincided with her operatic debut in London 50 years ago.

It was decided to put on a performance of that very opera ‘La Serva Padrona’ by Pergolesi involving family, friends and past students.

The production will be a very modern version of the comic opera (now renamed ‘Opera on Tap’ because it is set in a local pub).

Taking on her tutor’s former role will be Organ Prawang well known as a professional opera singer in Thailand and now studying for her PhD at Bangor University.

The other main role will be taken by the baritone Kiefer Jones from Amlwch.

He also studied with Marian Bryfdir at Bangor University, where he is now a vocal tutor himself and is also pursuing his professional singing career.

The production team is made up of colleagues, friends and family.

Andrew Agace from Menai Bridge, who has directed many successful opera productions at Bangor University, co-directs with Richard Wiseman from Chester University, who also wrote the adaptation and Marian’s son, Jamie-Glyn Bale, contributes his professional expertise in theatre production.

Performances will take place on Saturday, November 16 at 7.30 Powis Hall, Bangor University; Wednesday, November 20 at 6.30 3rd Space, Llandudno. Booking: 01492 330567; Saturday, November 30 at 7.30 Ucheldre Centre, Holyhead Booking: 01407 763361.
