Planners back new Aldi store

RHODRI GIGGS has revealed that he hasn’t spoken to his family since news of his affair with brother Ryan wife’s broke.

The former Bangor City FC player made the surprising admission during an interview on the Almost Famous podcast, on which comedian Barnaby Slater speaks to those who grew up in the shadow of famous relatives.

Rhodri, who is four years younger than Manchester United FC legend and current Wales manager Ryan Giggs, also spoke candidly about the brothers’ relationship growing up during the candid chat.

Speaking about his childhood days, Rhodri said it was “really, really good” and that he and Ryan were “always together.”

The 42-year-old however added: “He doesn’t mention me a lot about his football career but I’m pretty sure he’s as good as he is because of me or part of the reason I am for that, because he always wanted to be better than me.”

Rhodri admitted though that he himself was “competitive” but claimed he didn’t take that trait into adult life.

Explaining why he believes he wasn’t as good a footballer as his brother, Rhodri said he made a “conscious decision” aged 12 to stop playing the sport.

He said: “I played it in school and on the weekends, but I didn’t kick a ball in the week.

“If I would have done that, I pretty much guarantee I would have been better. I know that for a fact.”

Rhodri added that football only became a career choice once he was expelled from school aged 16, when he was told that he needed to get a job.

He then came in contact with football teams and realised he “could do that instead.”

“If I’d have played football and I’d have been as dedicated as he would have been, I would have been a better footballer than him.” Rhodri also revealed that he hasn’t spoken to his family, including his mum, in seven or eight years – around the same time contact

A PLAN to demolish a cash and carry to build a new Aldi store in Bangor has been given the green light by planners.

Meeting in Caernarfon on Monday, Gwynedd’s Planning Committee approved Aldi’s plans to flatten the former Blakemore cash and carry on Caernarfon Road, replacing it with a 1,254m supermarket.

Having been recommended for approval by planning officers, the development is set to create 10 new jobs while also protecting the 27 employees working at Aldi’s existing Garth Road store, which it will replace.

Also planned for the site are 113 parking spaces, 14 secure cycle spaces and the reconfiguration of site access.
