Great Welsh talent celebrate a Merry Little Christmas

-

GET into the festive spirit on Saturday, December 14 at Pontio at 7.30pm with Only Men Aloud and their concert A Merry Little Christmas, with Sophie Evans and Only Kids Aloud.

After the rip-roaring success of their Decade Gala Celebration at the Wales Millennium Centre and UK Tour last year, Only Men Aloud are going back out on the road this Winter to have a Merry Little Christmas with their fans across Wales.

Joining them this Christmas will be Tonypandy’s very own Sophie Evans fresh from starring as Glinda in Wicked in London’s West End.

Since winning BBC’s Last Choir Standing in 2008, Only Men Aloud have gone on to achieve great success.

OMA have given many memorable performances, including twice at The Royal Variety Performance, on numerous television programmes and are familiar faces at sporting events.

In 2009, their album Band of Brothers won a Classical Brit Award for Best Album of the Year.

They have toured every year since winning the show, with worldwide record sales of over 350,000.

2018 saw Only Men Aloud release their sixth studio album, Favourites – a collection of some of their best-loved songs from the last ten years.

From Rhythm of Life to Amazing Grace and a whole lot in between, this eclectic mix of songs have been performed up and down the country.

Hailing from Tonypandy in the Rhondda Valleys, Welsh singer and actress Sophie Evans came to prominence in 2010 when she was picked from over 10,000 hopefuls to appear on the hugely popular BBC series Over The Rainbow.

After making it to the final at only 17, Sophie was named runner-up and was subsequently chosen by Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber to don the legendary ruby slippers.

In February 2012 Sophie was handed the role of Dorothy full time, becoming a leading lady of the West End at the most famous theatre in the world, the London Palladium.

2018 was another ground-breaking year for Sophie.

She is now playing her dream role of Glinda in Wicked on the West End to great critical acclaim.

Only Kids Aloud is a spinoff from Only Men Aloud, and began in 2010 with a series of school-based workshops aimed at giving teachers the confidence to make singing a regular classroom activity for 8 to 13-year-old boys and girls.

Successful pilot projects in Brecon and Cardiff led to residencies in the Stiwt Theatre, Rhosllanerchrugog and a project on behalf of the National Eisteddfod of Wales with schools from across the Vale of Glamorgan.

This work developed further with Land of Song, a collaboration with Wales Millennium Centre and the

Roald Dahl Estate, that saw the creation of a brand new online resource for teachers and culminated with 4,500 schoolchildren joining in song at a series of celebratory concerts.

Tickets at £27 can be bought from the Pontio Box Office on 01248 382828, or log on to https://www. pontio.co.uk.
