Agyemang strike sees off Ruthin

-

BANGOR City continued their recent fine run of form with a narrow 1-0 home win over Ruthin Town.

The Cymru North side extended their unbeaten run at Nantporth to six games and pulled four points clear of sixth-placed Llan-rhaeadr-ym-Mochnant after their 11th win of the campaign.

Pedro Pasculli’s men have another busy week of competitive action, with a trip to Buckley Town due last night, before the Citizens make the long trek to bottom side Llanfair United on Saturday, March 14. After that, Bangor face champions-elect Prestatyn Town at Nantporth on March 17 before another home clash against Penrhyncoch on March 21 and finish their March programme away to Guilsfield on Saturday, March 28.

Despite dominating possession during the opening exchanges, City were unable to carve out a significant chance of note thanks to some poor decisions in the final third and fierce resistance from the Town rearguard.

The home side thought they had opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Hugo Colace bundled an effort into the net, but the goal was ruled out for an infringement on Town stopper Ryan Goldston.

Chris Hardy’s side carved out their first opening on 25 minutes when Osian Davies’ effort was well saved.

The deadlock was finally broken on 28 minutes when playmaking forward Francesco Serafino delivered a fine through ball into the path of Emmanuel Agyemang, who remained composed to put away the chance.

Gwion Owen spurned a golden chance to get the visitors back on level terms on 30 minutes but saw his attempt saved, the final opening of a scrappy first period.

After the break saw Agyemang go close when he rounded Goldston on 53 minutes, but he was unable to steer the ball into an empty net. The away side had strong shouts for a penalty waved away on 72 minutes, and although the Citizens had to withstand a barrage of long balls in the closing stages, they held firm to secure another three points.

The Citizens’ latest success means they are fifth in the Cymru North table, six points behind fourth-placed Guilsfield but will feel confident about making up the ground.
