‘SAFETY FIRST’ SAY COUNCILS AS SCHOOLS PLAN REOPENING:

More details are expected over the coming days of the school re-opening arrangemen­ts in north Wales.

on Wednesday education Minister Kirsty Williams announced that all schools in Wales will reopen on 29 June but with only a third of pupils in school at any one time.

Schools and local authoritie­s will be left to make their own decisions over the management of these returns.

Anglesey’s Director of education, Skills and Young People, rhys Hughes, said: “The health and safety of our children and staff must always come first.

“We are well aware that each of our schools faces different needs and challenges; and we must also respect the wishes of parents.

“We will be holding further discussion­s with members of the Secondary and Primary Strategic Forums and hope to be in a position to provide our schools with further guidance.”

In a joint statement, Cllr Cemlyn Williams, Gwynedd’s Cabinet Member for education and Garem Jackson, the Head of education, said: “We will be working with individual schools across the county to develop detailed plans to open in accordance with the Minister’s announceme­nt.

“Individual schools will be sharing informatio­n with families as soon as possible when details are confirmed.”

Kirsty Williams also revealed the summer term has been extended by one week to 27 July, and as a result, the autumn half-term holiday being extended to two weeks.

Those who choose not to send their children to school will not be fined.
