‘SAFETY FIRST’ SAY COUNCILS AS SCHOOLS PLAN REOPENING:
More details are expected over the coming days of the school re-opening arrangements in north Wales.
on Wednesday education Minister Kirsty Williams announced that all schools in Wales will reopen on 29 June but with only a third of pupils in school at any one time.
Schools and local authorities will be left to make their own decisions over the management of these returns.
Anglesey’s Director of education, Skills and Young People, rhys Hughes, said: “The health and safety of our children and staff must always come first.
“We are well aware that each of our schools faces different needs and challenges; and we must also respect the wishes of parents.
“We will be holding further discussions with members of the Secondary and Primary Strategic Forums and hope to be in a position to provide our schools with further guidance.”
In a joint statement, Cllr Cemlyn Williams, Gwynedd’s Cabinet Member for education and Garem Jackson, the Head of education, said: “We will be working with individual schools across the county to develop detailed plans to open in accordance with the Minister’s announcement.
“Individual schools will be sharing information with families as soon as possible when details are confirmed.”
Kirsty Williams also revealed the summer term has been extended by one week to 27 July, and as a result, the autumn half-term holiday being extended to two weeks.
Those who choose not to send their children to school will not be fined.
