TEENAGER ARRESTED AFTER GIRL SERIOUSLY HURT IN HIT AND RUN

Athree-year-old girl struck by a car on anglesey suffered serious injuries, police have confirmed.

She was airlifted to alder hey hospital in liverpool by the air ambulance with head injuries, where she remains.

It followed a collision, involving a black coloured Ford Focus and a child in Pencraig, llangefni, at about 4.50pm on Sunday.

North Wales Police (NWP) said that the driver had left the scene on foot.

a 19-year-old man has since been arrested on a number of charges. he has been released pending further investigat­ion.

a NWP spokesman said: “a three-yearold girl remained in hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic collision in Pencraig, llangefni yesterday afternoon.

“at 16:52 police were called to a report of a collision involving a black coloured Ford Focus and a child and that the driver had left the scene on foot.

“The child was airlifted to alder hey hospital in liverpool by the air ambulance with head injuries.

“officers immediatel­y commenced a search. a 19-year-old local man was found in llangefni town centre a short while later where he was arrested and taken to custody.”

Sergeant Meurig Jones of the NWP roads Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for anybody who may have seen the car being driven prior to the collision, or to anybody who witnessed the incident itself and is yet to speak to us, to contact us immediatel­y.

“The child remains in hospital in liverpool however her injuries, thankfully, are not believed to be life threatenin­g.

“The 19-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of numerous driving offences including drug driving, failing to stop and driving without a licence or insurance has been released pending further investigat­ion.”
