PAIR WHO ASSAULTED MAN AS HE WALKED TO THE SHOP ARE JAILED:

TWO men who attacked a man in Bangor for no reason as he was walking to the shops have been jailed.

Benjamin Carl Crofts, 23, and Jack Daniel Jones, 18, both from Bangor, launched their attack on the man as he walked through Upper Bangor last month.

At Llandudno Magistrate­s Court last Tuesday, the pair were each jailed for 26 weeks for assault.

The court heard that, on May 28, a 26-year-old man was subjected to an unprovoked attack while walking to the shop.

Crofts and Jones tried to provoke him into a fight and, when he tried to walk away, one of them threw a drink in his face.

They then started punching him and, when he fell to the floor, continued to punch and kick him.

The victim sustained various injuries including bruising and swelling to his face, neck, knees and elbows.

A MAN was airlifted to hospital after he was seriously injured at a creek on Anglesey.

Emergency services were called to the Amlwch area at around 5pm on Saturday following reports of an incident on Bull Bay Road.

Cemaes Bay Coastguard Search and Rescue said they had to race against the tide to assist the casualty, who was winched to safety once stabilised due to the “challengin­g terrain”.

The village, considered the most northerly in Wales, has a rugged coastline which contains caves and cliffs.

It is unclear how the man was injured, but the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed he had sustained

Following the hearing, Gwynedd North support Sergeant Chris Hargrave said: “This behaviour will not be tolerated.

“We will support victims of crime and seek to prosecute those committing violent offences.

“This was a senseless act of violence which was fuelled by intoxicati­on.

A statement on the Cemaes Bay Coastguard Search and Rescue Facebook page said: “On arrival Cemaes Team assisted the Welsh Ambulance Service Paramedics to stabilise the casualty and move to safety from the rapidly incoming tide. “Due to the challengin­g terrain HM Coastguard Cemaes Bay Team requested a casualty evacuation by Rescue 936 helicopter.

“Once Rescue 936 was on scene Cemaes Bay Coastguard Team assisted the Welsh Ambulance Service to safely load and secure the casualty for a winch extraction.”
