Thug threw man so hard against pub door police found dent in it:

‘INAPPROPRIATE LEVELS OF VIOLENCE’LEFT VICTIM WITH GAPING HEAD WOUND

- Eryl Crump

ATHUG who hurled another man against a pub doorway and caused a gaping head wound has avoided jail.

Kieran Thomas Doyle admitted wounding Barry Hughes in the incident at the Harbour bar in Holyhead last July.

The 29-year-old, of Station Street, Holyhead, appeared for sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court, and was handed a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

Judge Timothy Petts said: “For whatever reason, you took it upon yourself to get the victim, Mr Hughes, out of the pub. But it was wholly inappropriate for you to deal with it in the way you did.

“It was a short-lived but nasty incident in which you used inappropriate levels of violence.”

The judge ordered Doyle to carry out 175 hours of unpaid work and to pay Mr Hughes £1,200 compensation.

Doyle must also carry out 15 days’ rehabilitation activity and pay costs of £340.

Richard Edwards, prosecuting, said Mr Hughes had been attending a music event in Holyhead on July 29 last year and had been drinking in various pubs around the town.

“By the time he arrived at the Harbour bar, he was quite drunk and recalls ordering a drink at the bar,” said Mr Edwards.

“His next recollection is waking up at Ysbyty Gwynedd the following day.”

Mr Edwards said the injured man suffered a deep laceration to the forehead which required stitches and has left him with a permanent scar.

CCTV footage presented in court showed Mr Hughes was standing near the defendant, who grabbed him by the shoulders and pushed him towards the door.

Mr Hughes hit the door with force and fell to the floor.

Doyle then picked him up and tried to push him against the door a second time.

Police officers who attended the scene said they found a dent in the doorway where Mr Hughes had hit it.

Arrested later, Doyle denied causing the injury.

Defence counsel Elen Owen said Doyle accepted there were aggravating features and that he would have no complaint if faced with an immediate custodial sentence.

But she argued there were mitigating factors which would allow the court to draw back from custody.
