Strait rescue drama after boat capsize traps person beneath:
THREE people and a dog were saved in a dramatic rescue operation after a boat capsized in the Menai Strait.
One passenger was left trapped under the vessel after it overturned in the water on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the incident just off Anglesey at around 1.30pm.
A spokesman for the coastguard said they had “multiple” and “constant” calls about the incident from eyewitnesses who watched events unfolding from the shore.
The boat was understood to be sailing in an area of the strait known as ‘the Swellies’ when it ran into difficulty between the Menai and Britannia bridges.
A number of rescue teams from the surrounding area, including Beaumaris RNLI, the Holyhead Coastguard and crews from Caernarfon, were
sent to the scene.
The Bangor Mobile Rescue Team and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter were also dispatched as part of the large emergency service response to the incident.
Three people were on-board the boat when it capsized.
They were subsequently rescued and taken to shore by a passing private vessel, reportedly a speedboat.
It is understood that the survivors were also accompanied by a dog on-board the boat.
All occupants of the vessel – including the dog – were rescued as part of the operation and are now safe.
According to RNLI Beaumaris, one person suffered minor injuries during the incident on Sunday.
The passenger is believed to have become trapped under the water after the boat capsized.
They suffered a shoulder injury and were later transferred to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for treatment by paramedics at the scene.
The vessel is believed to have sunk into the strait after capsizing.
