Thug hit man just days after sentencing

ATTACKER JAILED FOR SIX MONTHS

- Glyn Bellis

ATHUG punched a man before brandishing barbecue tongs, just days after being given a suspended jail sentence.

Kieron Wilson, 22, of Bryn y Gelli, Brynsiencyn, Anglesey, had taken “either drugs or drink” when he attacked another man and then fetched the tongs from his house.

Just days earlier, he had received an 18-month suspended jail term for wounding, Caernarfon Crown Court heard.

Wilson admitted common assault and having an offensive weapon last January, when he appeared before the court on Thursday.

He was jailed for six months. A restraining order was imposed and the tongs forfeited.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said Wilson couldn’t complain if he activated the suspended sentence, but the operational period was extended instead.

Wilson had been held in HMP Berwyn in Wrexham since the new offences and the judge said the sentence would mean Wilson would be released from prison soon.

“You are doing well in Berwyn, so there’s some hope for the future,” the judge told Wilson.

He told him the January 24 offences were “another example of you losing your temper”.

Judge Rowlands declared: “You had taken something, either drugs or drink, and were trying to throw your weight around.”

Prosecuting barrister Ryan Rothwell said Rhodri Roberts and his girlfriend had been at Brynsiencyn when they came across a group of males, including trouble-seeking Wilson, who punched him.

The defendant had then brandished the tongs which were mistaken for a knife and police had been called.

Defence counsel Richard Edwards said he had been in custody since January 25 – the day after the incident.
