Bangor thrash Gele in Bowl

WRU DISTRICTS BOWL DISTRICT J2 BANGOR 34 – 5 ABERGELE

IT was an eventful game of Rugby at Cae Milltir where Bangor put in a stunning home performance for a bonus point win and the referee was stretchered off.

Star of the game was scrum half James Andrew who converted every attempt at goal with 4 conversions and two penalties, one from the centre spot.

Bangor started at pace chasing everything down. Their first try came quickly after fielding a failed clearance kick they ran the ball wide and centre Gwyn Roberts went in at the corner. Andrew’s touchline conversion sailed through the posts. Soon after they caught the defence in possession and a quick tap penalty saw Aaron Williams cross under the post.

Abergele managed to slow the game and allow their heavier forwards to take the game to Bangor. Although they occupied Bangor’s 22m area for a long period their only reward was a try from Sam Jones after a lineout and maul. Bangor was yellow carded for repeated offences but still managed to add 3 points with Andrew’s long range penalty.

The second half continued much in the same vein and then an unfortunate accident saw the referee stretchered off the pitch and after a long break another official was found to continue the game.

Bangor finally regained control by running every ball they got and a great run from full back Cameron Owen after fielding a clearance kick almost led to a try but they got another penalty to add to the score.

This was followed by a great move in the backs and No.8 Sam Hannon managed to stretch and touch down the ball on the line.

The final try followed another passing bout and outside half Tom Belt went over. With a game to go, away to Colwyn Bay, Bangor now top this mini league of 4 teams on 14 points with Tarw Nant on 12, Colwyn Bay on 10 and Abergele on 8.
