A55 tanker crash terror

‘IT’S A MIRACLE NO ONE WAS HURT’... SHOCKING MOMENT OUT-OF-CONTROL TANKER CRASHES THROUGH CENTRAL RESERVATION

- Andrew Forgrave

THIS is the dramatic moment a large tanker suddenly veers to one side before crashing through a central reservation and toppling over on the A55.

A video shared on Twitter declared it was a “miracle nobody was hurt”.

It shows cars on the opposite carriageway coming within feet of the out-of-control tanker as its driver fights for control.

The video itself was filmed in a vehicle following close behind the tanker as it weaved across the A55 last Monday.

Earlier, North Wales Police confirmed the tanker was not carrying fuel, contrary to speculation on social media.

It was travelling eastbound when it crashed through the central reservation just after junction 6 near Llangefni.

The white Volvo tanker finished up on the westbound carriageway, causing long queues and diversions.

The video, published online by @Carl_M79, appears to show the stricken vehicle suddenly veering sharply to its left into a crash barrier.

It then careers back straight across the carriageway and smashes through the central reservation.

A westbound motorist had the fright of their life as the huge tanker headed straight towards them.

At the last moment the tanker turned and braked, causing it to topple over.

Approaching vehicles managed to stop just in time.

The Welsh Ambulance Service was alerted to the incident less than three minutes after it occurred at 3.40pm.

The driver was later taken to hospital at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

North Wales Police said he is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

The A55 was shut long into the evening between junctions 6 and 7, with traffic diverted along the A5, causing congestion in Gaerwen.
