Students celebrate film success at the double

-

COLEG Menai’s Media and Performing Arts students have double cause for celebration: not only was one of their two recently produced films broadcast on the BBC recently, the other will be transmitted on S4C later this month.

Working in partnership with film-making company ‘It’s My Shout’, Media students helped to shoot, edit and produce the short films, whilst the college’s Performing Arts students filled a variety of positions, including lead and supporting roles.

This year, the Coleg Menai students got the opportunity to work alongside Richard Harrington, star of the smashhit crime series ‘Hinterland’.

‘It’s My Shout’ specialises in finding and developing new talent for the film industry. The company works with educational establishments and communities to produce short films for their broadcast partners the BBC and S4C.

Paul Edwards, programme area manager for both Media and Performing Arts at Coleg Menai, said: “This was an excellent opportunity for our learners to work with industry professionals – both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Valuable experience like this will prepare them for fantastic careers within the industry.

“Many of our past learners who have worked on previous projects with “It’s My Shout” have gone on to work within the industry and gain employment with the BBC, S4C, Netflix and many other production companies.

Swimming With Dolphins was shown on Tuesday, October 12 on BBC 2 Wales, whilst Welsh language short film Dalen will be broadcast today, Wednesday, October 27 on S4C.
