Cofis are beaten as Barry deliver for Chesterfield

Gavin Chesterfield got the performance he wanted to celebrate his 500th game in charge as Barry Town United picked up a priceless 2-1 win at Caernarfon Town.

It was their first league win since a 1-0 triumph over reigning champion Connah’s Quay Nomads on September 11.

Having first joined the club in the summer of 2007, Chesterfield is now in his 15th season at Jenner Park. Earlier in the week, a 7-1 home win over Pontypridd Town sent his side into the semi-finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Kayne McLaggon scored for the third successive game to put Barry ahead before Jordan Cotterill doubled the advantage just before the break. Sion Bradley (inset) pulled one back for the Cofis, but Barry held on.

Unbeaten league leaders The New Saints comfortably maintained their seven-point lead at the top with a 5-0 trouncing of Cardiff Met at Park Hall. Goals from Blain Hudson and Declan McManus made it 2-0 at the break and Ryan Brobbel, Adrian Cieslewicz and McManus again finished off the students in the second half.

Jack Kenny struck twice to keep Flint Town United in second place as the Silkmen ran out 2-1 winners at Aberystwyth Town.

Kenny opened the scoring after half an hour for the visitors, but Louis Bradford gave the home fans hope when he levelled in the 65th minute. Then came Kenny’s second to clinch the three points four minutes later.

Newtown were beaten 1-0 at Haverfordwest County as they lost ground in the table.

The long wait for another win is finally over for Connah’s Quay Nomads as they ended an eight-game streak without picking up three points with a 4-0 home triumph over Cefn Druids.

The champions backed up their 4-0 Nathaniel Cup quarterfinal success over Holywell Town in midweek with another crop of goals.

Aeron Edwards scored twice in the first half at Deeside and then assisted Craig Curran to make it 3-0.

The final goal came from Jordan Davies two minutes from time.

It was Craig Harrison’s first league win since taking over as manager from Andy Morrison and puts his side within striking distance of the top half of the table.

Alhagi Touray Sisay was the hero for Haverfordwest as he scored in the 26th minute to give his side a hard-earned home win over Newtown.

A goal from Sam Snaith also did the trick for Penybont in their home clash with Bala Town.
