Mum died 18 months after crash that killed her son

-

A “LOVING mother” died 18 months on from injuries she suffered in an A55 crash that caused the death of her toddler son.

Ashley Jade O’riordanmorley, 29, was a passenger travelling on the expressway near Gwalchmai, Anglesey, on February 2020 with her partner Dewi Owen and their son Ellis Wynne.

The family were travelling back to their home in Valley from Anslow in Staffordshire when their car collided with a lorry which had pulled over after a tyre puncture between Llangefni and Rhosneigr.

Ellis, who was 21 months old, was pronounced dead at Ysbyty Gwynedd shortly after the collision, while Ms Morley was taken to hospital with lifethreatening injuries, from which she never recovered.

Ms O’riordan-morley passed away at Hafod y Green Rehabilitation Centre in Denbigh on September 24 last year, an inquest opening was told in Caernarfon.

Assistant coroner for North West Wales Sarah Riley heard that Ms O’riordan-morley sustained a brain injury in the 2020 crash.

A postmortem examination gave a provisional cause of death given as “old brain injury”.

Ms Riley said: “Ashley Jade O’riordan-morley was a passenger in a vehicle travelling on the A55 in February 2020 when it collided with a heavy goods vehicle.

The acting senior coroner ordered for a postmortem examination to be carried out which took place on October 4 at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

“A provisional cause of death given by Dr Mark Atkinson was an old brain injury.

“The investigation into her death remains ongoing at this time and, whilst formally opened, it is adjourned pending further investigations.”

In Ms Morley’s funeral notice following her death her family described her as a “beloved partner”, “loving mother” and “much loved daughter” who will be “sadly missed and lovingly remembered” by her friends and family.
