Bike ride 25 times around Great Orme
In memory of his friend Ed Burke, Chris Williams will once again take to the saddle and ride 25 laps around Llandudno’s Great Orme to raise funds for St David’s Hospice.
Chris, a Warrant Officer in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps, has vowed since the passing of his friend, that he would continue to do a fundraising event every year.
Cycling around the headland just once is a challenge for many, for Chris, 25 times will mean a total of 136 miles in distance and over 13,543 feet of climbing. He chose to support St David’s Hospice in memory of his friend Ed who sadly passed away at the Hospice in 2019 at the young age of 44. Each lap will pass the hospice building on Abbey Rd - the charity all his sponsorship money will help to fund.
His Great Orme challenge cycle ride will take place on Friday July 1st starting at 4:30 am.
Chris, who lives in Conwy, thinks it will take him 9-10 hours. He said: “I decided to do a challenge each year to support
St David’s Hospice.
“The hospice gave outstanding support and care to my friend Ed and so many other people I know.
“I thought the Great Orme Challenge would fit really well as I get to pass the hospice on each lap.
“As the challenge gets harder, this will give me a reminder of why I’m doing it.”
James Wilde, Conwy Area Fundraiser at St David’s Hospice, said: “Chris’ consistent support to doing challenges which push his limits are always really inspiring.
“I look forward to seeing how he gets on the day and seeing him at the finish line for a welldeserved drink and some food!”
