Working Wales can help, and to further support people across North Wales, new career centres have opened in Porthmadog, Holyhead, and Queensferry offering face- toface appointments and drop ins. This is in addition to the existing centres across North Wales and the rest of Wales.
As the Welsh Government’s employability gateway for age 16 plus support, Working Wales, delivered by Careers Wales, provides a tailored, impartial and inclusive careers guidance and coaching service, supporting access to employment and training, to help further careers and improve wellbeing. And it’s all free.
WORKING WALES CAN HELP YOU WITH CV PREPARATION AND INTERVIEW SKILLS
Alex Greene, 59 from Wrexham sought advice from Working Wales as he was struggling to get into paid employment, having been volunteering since 2018.
Alex dropped into the Wrexham Careers Wales centre and booked a face-to-face appointment with Jackie Pickup, Working Wales careers adviser Alex and Jackie started working together and it was identified within the first guidance session that Alex’s initial need was support to update his CV.
The pair worked on updating Alex’s CV and kept in regular contact through face-to-face catch ups, via text and E-mail until both were happy with Alex’s CV.
Alex’s new CV landed him an interview and Working Wales were able to help Alex further by providing face-to-face interview support.
With the support of Working Wales, and his own personal determination and drive, Alex is now enjoying his dream job as an Adult Community Learning Administrator, working with the Adult Community Learning Coordinator team at Caia Park.
ALEX GREENE
Alex said: “I’m always looking to improve myself and
I firmly believe that with the support from Working Wales, that I was able to find a job I can excel in.”
Jackie was incredibly encouraging and her support to upgrade my CV turned the tide. Jackie was able to include skills I’d learned whilst volunteering and it helped to land me my current job.
The Working Wales service and the wider team in the Wrexham careers centre has made such a positive impact on my life. As a bit of a pragmatist, I’d say that the most helpful thing was that it got me the job. And it got me the right job. I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone else who helped, including Hannah on the front desk, and Jackie’s colleague Martin who helped polish my interview technique. They all deserve praise.”
If like Alex, you’re in need of employment support to help you land your dream job, drop into your nearest Careers Wales centre https://ca-reerswales.gov.wales/ contact-us/our-centres visit the website https://workingwales.gov.wales/ how-we-can-help or call 0800 028 4844.
